PERSUASIVE pupils used their writing talents to raise more than twice as much as they needed for new school sports kit.

Low Furness Primary School council - which has children aged three to 11 on its panel - set out on the fundraising project to deck their sports teams out with matching tracksuits.

Alison Stubbs, Year Five and Six teaching assistant and joint school council co- ordinator, said: “We decided to buy the tracksuits to give the children a sense of pride and unity when they’re out, as well as keeping them warm.

“The children all went home and wrote individual letters and then we all got together at the next council meeting and pulled the most relevant and persuasive points out of everyone’s letters.”

The children had originally hoped to raise £600, but their letter proved so persuasive that they ended up with £1,250 and were able to buy a new football kit for the Key Stage One children.

Their efforts paid off thanks to generous donations from Kimberly-Clark, Tesco and GlaxoSmithKline as well as a generous school parent who runs his own physiotherapy business.
