Aldi is looking to hire more than 1500 people to work in stores on a temporary basis over the Christmas period.

The supermarket is looking for staff to support permanent colleagues as it prepares for its biggest ever Christmas. Help will be needed on checkouts, replenishing stock as well as helping on the click and collect service.

The 1500 temporary Christmas store roles are in addition to the 2,000 permanent jobs Aldi is also looking to fill by the end of this year as it continues to push ahead with plans to open an average of one new store a week, and a similar number of permanent jobs are planned for next year.

Aldi is also recruiting across its 11 distribution centres for roles such as Warehouse Selectors, Logistics Assistants and Lorry Drivers.

Kelly Stokes, Recruitment Director at Aldi UK, said: “We always need extra support over the busy Christmas period but this year especially, temporary store colleagues will play a vital role in keeping our shelves stocked as the nation prepares to reunite with their loved ones after missing out on festive celebrations in 2020.

“At the same time, we also want to recognise and thank our amazing colleagues who have been going above and beyond to serve local communities over the past year. This is why we will once again be keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, and it’s been really encouraging to see other retailers committing to do the same this year.”

Store Assistants earn an industry-leading minimum hourly rate of up to £10.57 nationally and £11.32 inside the M25.

The supermarket has also announced they will still be keeping all stores shut on Boxing Day to allow staff time off as a thank you for their hard work throughout the year.
