The legal arrangement which gave the star’s father complete control over her life since 2008 has been the subject of much media scrutiny over the past year.

Jamie Spears confirmed he would step down as her conservator in August, however he did not provide a timeframe for this.

According to Buzzfeed News, Judge Brenda Penny granted the singer's request to immediately suspend Jamie Spears as conservator of her estate.

The judge appointed John Zabel, a certified public accountant chosen by Britney Spears, to oversee her finances on a temporary basis.

Buzzfeed reported that at a further hearing on November 12, Britney will petition for the conservatorship to be removed altogether, and that she would only do this after her father had been removed and turned over his conservatorship files.

According to Buzzfeed, Mathew Rosengart, Britney’s lawyer, said: “I believe in those files we will find evidence of his corruption — and worse.

"And the ramifications are going to be more severe than just civil litigation against Mr. Spears based upon my present understanding of what happened here.”

This trial comes after a year of movement known as the Free Britney movement which saw people worldwide petition for Britney’s release from her family’s control.

Various documentaries were created to highlight her situation. ‘Free Britney’ aired earlier this year, and ‘Controlling Britney Spears’ aired on Sky on Monday night.

Netflix have also released their documentary entitled ‘Britney vs Spears’.
