THE Mail readers have had their say on Covid-19 marshals patrolling the streets of Barrow.

The marshals will be visible during peak hours to offer advice and ensure everyone understands the current rules and guidelines in place in a bid to drive infection rates further down.

They will also clean common touch points - such as benches or the buttons on traffic crossings - at regular intervals to reduce the ability of the virus to spread from person to person.

It is hoped their work will help to make sure people feel safe while offering support to shops, traders and businesses as they comply with social distancing and the legal requirements of Test and Trace.

Barrie Hetherington said: "Support like telling people off for not wearing a face mask when using an outdoor cash machine, and standing yapping with members of public with their face mask pulled down to their chin, aye setting a good example."

David Coulthurst said: "To be fair those queues outside the charity shops and discount shops in Barrow get a bit out of hand."

Carla Little said: "It's a total waste of taxpayers money.

"The support people ‘need’ is to be able to see those closest to them, not some random folk in green jackets and for all businesses (including hospitality) to be open right now, protecting jobs, incomes and mental health."

Christine Rowan said: "It's a good idea but nine months too late."

GP Rose said: "It's totally pointless."
