A DRUNK teen nicked a packet of condoms after a night out drinking to "show off" a court heard.
David Paul Sandham, of Ramsden Street, Barrow, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. (9)
Prosecutor Mr Lee Dacre explained: "This is a fairly straight forward case. It was 3am and the defendant went into Tesco and went straight to a condom shelf and put a packet in his pocket. This was reviewed on CCTV and when arrested said he had no money to pay for them."
Sandham, 17, admitted theft from a shop on July 26 where he stole a packet of condoms with £10.
Defence solicitor Mr Trystan Roberts said: "The condoms were returned to Tesco. He was intoxicated at the time and when he realised he took them back. He stole an item from a large retail store, not that that's an excuse. This was not premeditated at all. He was with two women and it was a spur of the moment thing. More showing off or bravado than anything."
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
