ONE of Barrow's nuclear weapon-carrying submarines has been pictured leaving a UK naval base.
The Vanguard-class submarine was pictured by local Sheila Weir leaving the HMB Clyde base at Faslane in Scotland yesterday.
Four Vanguard-class boats were built by Vickers in Barrow and are due to be replaced by the Dreadnought-class submarines after the government approved the continued use of the Trident nuclear deterrent.
The first of class, HMS Vanguard, was commissioned in 1993, HMS Victorious in 1995, HMS Vigilant in 1996 and HMS Vengeance in 1999.
