EMERGENCY services and mountain rescue teams were called to help four people stuck on Scafell Pike.
Police first received the distress call around 6.35pm on Saturday night, receiving reports the group had come into some difficulty after allegedly taking cannabis.
Members of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were drafted in to help the walkers, who were all guided down to safety.
Cumbria Police posted the incident on their social media accounts last night, causing outrage among some users, who felt the rescue team put themselves at unnecessary risk of danger.
The force's post read: "Persons phoning Cumbria Police because they are stuck on a mountain, after taking cannabis. Now having to deploy M'tain Rescue, Air support and Ambulance to rescue them. Words fail us....."
