EMERGENCY teams were paged to a fire onboard a vessel on Sunday morning.
Furness Coastguard’s vessel crew had been first alerted to the incident by the fire alarm system onboard. The team activated the fire suppressant system and then left the vessel to a safe area.
Firefighters from Cumbria Fire and Rescue entered the engine room to investigate the source of the fire wearing breathing apparatus, whilst Furness Coastguard coordinated the incident and communicated updates to their centre in Holyhead.
Eventually, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service reported a successful operation and said that the fire had been extinguished with no environmental incident apparent.
All teams were then stood down.
A spokesperson from Furness Coastguard said: “If in danger on the coast or one of the four navigable lakes, Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater or Derwentwater then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
