According to the council's website, the initiative is designed to give local residents and communities the confidence to say 'No' to uninvited sales people and to warn rogue traders and cold callers that they are not welcome in an area.
They are also created to discourage doorstep callers from visiting a particular area and are easily identifiable by signs.
A post on the Westmorland and Furness Trading Standards Facebook page said: "WARNING: Trading Standards have received reports that cold callers are operating within No Cold Calling Zones within the BARROW area asking if residents need any work doing.
"Don’t part with your hard earned cash to a stranger who might not deliver the goods.
"SAY NO to doorstep COLD CALLERS."
