A WOMAN committed a spate of shoplifting offences at a retail park in Barrow, a court heard.
Maigan Print, of Anson Street in Barrow, narrowly avoided an immediate custodial sentence after pleading guilty at the first opportunity to four theft offences.
Peter Kelly prosecuting the case at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on September 2 said the 35-year-old stole ‘various items’ totalling £31.24 and two beef steaks costing £11 from Iceland on Hindpool Retail Park on August 31.
The court heard Print also thieved a £7.99 bottle of gin without paying from Home Bargains on Dalton Road and assaulted a woman by beating her on the same day in question.
Print further conceded to stealing another bottle of gin valued at £7.99 from the same store on August 15.
The total value of items stolen was £58.22, the court was told.
Magistrates said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified due to the number of shoplifting offences and the fact that they were committing whilst she was on post-sentence supervision.
As a result, they imposed a two-week sentence suspended for 12 months with one requirement of completing a drug rehabilitation program under the direction of Recovery Steps.
