The latest planning applications filed at Swindon Borough Council.

Town Centre: Swindon Borough Council has asked its own planning department for the sign-off of two important pieces of work which must be approved before significant work can be done to the fabric of the historic Health Hydro in Milton Road.

The baths are shut for an extensive refit, the first part of a long-term project. This phase will see much of the plant used at the centre replaced, and the entrance and changing areas changed.

Before work in earnest can start, planners must sign off on an investigation into the state of the historic building and a description of what external repairs are proposed.

Those have now been submitted.

Highworth: Housing Association Stonewater has applied for permission to improve the energy efficiency of 55 houses and flats it manages at Edencroft.

The application says measures like cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, double glazing, heat pumps and high-retention storage heaters will be installed in the homes.

Old Town: A 40-foot-long shipping container can be placed next to one already on-site at Croft Sports Centre in Hesketh Crescent. The container will be sited on grassed land near the artificial sports pitches and used by Croft Juniors FC solely for grounds maintenance equipment. The club looks after the grass football and cricket pitches on the sports complex.

Westmead: There should be no confusion as to what business is occupying Pagoda 1 at Pagoda Park trading estate in West Swindon.

Builders’ merchant Travis Perkins, which occupies the building, has been given permission to put up 34 signs on the building and around it.

Wanborough: A plan to install 36 electricity-generating solar panels on the roof of the swimming pool building in the grounds of Callas Hill Farm, a listed building, has been given the green light.

Moredon: A plan to put an extension on the first floor at the back of 1 Blair Parade to create a new flat has been turned down.

The proprietor of the Golden Star Chinese takeaway and chip shop, Mr He, had made a proposal to extend the building in order to create a one-bedroom flat for the manager or an other worker at the shop.

But planners at Swindon Borough Council have refused permission. The report said: “Due to its poorly designed access arrangements to the first floor flat and refuse store the proposed first-floor residential unit would have a negative impact on the amenities of the future occupants of the flat.”

The refusal notice also cited inadequate car parking and bicycle storage.

Extensions: Applications have been submitted to be able to build extensions to domestic houses and flats, or to put up outbuildings or convert garages and lofts to habitable spaces at: 1 Timoney Place, Wichelstowe; 3 Glenwood Close, Old Town; 6 Verney Close, Covingham; 125 Graham Street, Broadgreen; 101 Besemer Road east, Rodbourne Cheney; 5 Cedars Close, Rodbourne Cheney; 31 Minerva Heights, Blunsdon St Andrew; 170 Shrivenham Road, Greenbridge.
