CARLISLE College has said that it is elated after its students hosted a public exhibition in a popular shopping centre.
As part of their UAL level three foundation diploma in art and design which encompasses fine art, fashion, costume design, graphic design, and much more, students held a public exhibition in an empty unit at The Lanes Shopping Centre.
The exhibition showcased their work and took place between Monday, April 22, and April 26.
Wendy Oxley, who is the course leader, expressed her delight at the way her students had independently organised and ran the College's seventh annual exhibition which was visited by over 400 people.
She said: "The students had a two-day tight schedule to install the exhibition and everyone pulled together. The community spirit was inspirational. Myself and my colleagues Kate and Paul are elated with every single one of them.
"This opportunity has put them in great stead for their future and given them endless skills to take forward to their next venture and using this experience for their end-of-year show or setting up and showcasing their own work in Cumbria and using the social skills communicating to an audience.
"They now have the confidence to own it and go for it as young professionals."
Wendy also said a special 'thank you' to all of the local organisations who helped make the college's latest public exhibition possible, including Prism Arts, the neurodivergent artist collective in Carlisle, with whom the college collaborated with for this project.
She said: " Special thank you to Prism Arts, Cumberland Council, The Lanes Shopping Centre for helping us pull together and deliver this spectacular showcase of their work."
