A FREE family fun day is set to take place next month to celebrate the granting of a town's charter in 1280.
For the past three decades Ulverston Town Council has held an annual celebration to commemorate the awarding of a charter by King Edward I allowing it to hold markets.
The Charter Family Fun Day will be taking place on Saturday September 9 in the town centre.
Ulverston's Town Crier will start the event by reading the charter at 10.30am. Then the day is followed by an array of events, entertainment and activities for all the family.
The Market Cross will see performances from Friends Of Ulverston Town Band, Ragazza and Boom Dang.
For those who think they own the prettiest dog, there is a Family Dog Competition at the Market Cross at 2pm.
The Mayor of Ulverston will judge the competition and prizes will be provided to everyone who enters, including dogs and their owners.

Ulverston artist and Coro staff member Amy Whelan will run a longer-than-usual Coro Craft Morning from 9.30am until 3pm at The Coro with children and their families tasked with making a mini market stall.
Ulverston Parish Church will be open for families to explore the memories and mysteries of Ulverston with displays and talks by local experts.
The Charter Family Fun Day will also host magic shows, games and balloon making, health checks, talks, family activities in celebration of Heritage Open Day and various food stalls to keep families fed and watered throughout the day.
A spokesperson for the Ulverston Town Council said: "We are looking forward to holding Charter Festival this year. Unfortunately last year's event had to be cancelled due to The Queen's passing.
"This year's event is set to be even bigger and better. A brilliant, fun day out for all the family, there will be many free activities - magic shows, face painting, stalls, activities, games and live music throughout the day.
"Charter Festival family fun day is a very popular fixture in Ulverston’s festival calendar, bringing the community together for a day filled with fun and activities."
