THE owners of a renowned luxury resort have resubmitted an application to upgrade its spa facilities after a previous proposal ran into objections.

The Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa, near Ambleside, has submitted a 'scaled back' application to the Lake District National Park Authority to build a relaxation spa building, infinity pool, and one hot tub.

The previous application proposed the installation of five hot tubs with private seating.

Further revisions in the current application are outlined in the planning statement.

It says: "In relation to the previous application, concerns were raised about the potential impact of the proposals on views from Wray Castle.

"As the proposed extended spa facilities will be located to the north of the existing facilities and hotel, in views from Wray Castle, they will be largely screened by existing built form.

"As such, the proposals will not cause harm to views enjoyed from Wray Castle.

"The loss of greenspace was also raised as a concern in relation to the previous application.

"The revised scheme retains a larger area of greenspace than the original submission.

"In addition, the reduced scale of the scheme also ensures that the development sits on the largely level area adjacent to the existing spa facility.

"In considering previous application and application relating to the wider site, the importance of the oak tree, located to the west of the current application site, was identified.

"This tree is considered to be an important part of the character of the local landscape.

"As identified in the submitted application documents, this tree will be retained, and measures will be taken to ensure that it is not damaged during the construction.

"The revised scheme provides additional separation distance from the oak, with the proposed boundary wall over 20 metres from the centre of the tree."

The document also emphasises the importance of the scheme to the local economy.

It says: "The applicant is a significant employer in the local area and therefore makes a substantial contribution to the local economy.

"The proposed development will enable the applicant to enhance their offer to guests and thus continue to attract visitors to the area, which helps to deliver a prosperous economy."
