A FISH and chip shop in Barrow is fundraising to support the town's food bank.

Matties Fish and Chip shop on Ainslie Street is putting together a fundraiser for the Barrow food bank to help the local community during the month of December

On December 18 Matties will be donating £1,000 of food vouchers to the food bank.

They are hoping to raise a large amount of money on the day and present it to Claire Coulthurst, the project manager at Barrow food bank.

David Mccreedy, owner of the business, said: "We are helping the food bank because they never have enough food or enough money especially in these times when people are struggling.

"We are putting collection boxes and we are going to be a food point where people can drop food which we will collect for the food bank.

"It's bad all year but it's coming up to Christmas and people don't have enough money to buy food. We are in a position where we can help them people.

"We want to put something back into the community."

In March Matties Fish and Chips shop raised £2,200 from their Ukraine charity fundraiser which was donated to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal.
