THE Hairy Bikers have paid tribute to Her Majesty the Queen after her sad passing.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away last week at the age of 96, seeing her son King Charles III take over the throne.

TV chefs Dave Myers and Si King have offered their sympathies to the royal family and to the wider public over the death of the Queen who has “been here forever”.

“It’s funny, I have a neighbour who is in his 80s, I think he’s 82, and its odd to think that we think the Queen has always been there,” said Barrow born Dave, speaking on the Hairy Bikers Agony Uncles podcast. “But he’s 82, when he was born the Queen was kind of a teenager.”

Si King had been presenting Pub in the Park at Verulamium Park in St Albans just days after the monarchs passing.

He described there being a sense of a “joyous celebration of her life but a collective grief” at the event.

He said: “She was so fondly thought of by the majority people of the country.

“It was very tangible those two emotions all the way through that weekend, and it was really quite remarkable.”

Dave, who attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London earlier this year, praised the Queen for her service to the country.

“All the years of service, and she’s never messed up, and brought a lot of comfort and warmth to many, many people – rich, poor, in between, all around the world,” said Dave.

“We are so lucky to be part of the 70th Platinum Jubilee.”

Si pondered a Queen-less world and how life would be changed forever for the younger generation.

He said: “I just thought about my granddaughter and all she will know in effect if you think about it is Kings, she’s not going to know any Queens!

“There was a woman that worked tirelessly in her rule as a monarch and whatever you think politically that’s pretty remarkable, and everybody should afford her that level of respect and thanks.”

Dave said: “I think it’s time to really wish her that she rests in peace, and commiserations with the close family and with everyone else, we all feel it, it’s a shared loss.”
