FRIENDS of a young Cumbria man who tragically lost his life will gather to pay tribute to him tonight.

Jack Grieve died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries.

The 18-year-old was found on Wigton Road in Carlisle at around 4:15am on July 31 and was taken to Cumberland Infirmary.

Tragically, his death was confirmed the following week, on August 5. A Home Office post-mortem will take place as part of inquiries to work out the circumstances.

Alfie Young, a friend of his, has organised a meet-up for later tonight of car enthusiasts, which Jack was.

Motorists will meet at the Carlisle Viaduct car park at 6pm tonight (August 13) and share memories of Jack and pay tribute.

Alfie said: “Jack was the most loyal, easy-going, funny person ever who always managed to put a smile on my face.

“My most favourite memory of Jack would be meeting him, I’m so glad I got the opportunity to become his best friend in such a short period of time.

“Jack was many things, but to me, he was my brother, he did not care about what anyone thought or had to say he just got on with his life and lived it to the fullest, which he most certainly did.

“Memories of Jack include him helping me to pass my theory test. I hurried up and passed my driving because he was sick of all the lifts I wanted, washing his car almost every day, camping, racing cars around Carlisle, crashing the car, and Jack's dad having to come fix the old girl, and going on nights out.

“During these times were where most of the funniest memories were made.

“He will forever be with me.

“Until we meet again brother.”

Members of the car club Unity will gather.

Alfie continued: “Jack loved attending Unity events, he had a passion for motors and loved nothing more than whipping about with his friends and seeing the fantastic range of motors and people within the group.

“His banter was unbelievably good, and he will be a huge miss within the local car scene.”

A funeral will be held on August 17 at Carlisle Crematorium at 12:20pm.
