BARROVIAN’S have shared some of their favourite childhood memories from living in the area.

Readers were asked the question, ‘Where was your favourite place to go in Barrow as a kid?’, and here is how they responded.

Pamela Bell said: “When I was very little Ioved going on the roundabout in the market. Also loved going to Woolworths and looking through the records.”

Mike White said: “Down the docks, fishing, swimming. It makes me shiver now thinking back about some of the things we’d jump off into the water.”

Sue Slater said: “Far too many to mention. Great days. Getting bonfire wood out of Sowerby woods for bonfire night was the best.”

John Calvert said: “As a child playing up the ‘Muddies’ (top of Holbeck) making dens in the old hedge, or up the old mines between Holbeck and Dalton. Then as a teenager I have fond memories of watching the bands at the amphitheatre by the Abbey, and of course the under 18’s disco at ‘The Place’. Along with funny little memories of going to the sweet shop on roose bridge with my grandad for a treat, too many to mention really.”

Christine Birchall said: “Barrow Park was wonderful. So much to do, boating lake, cenotaph, bandstand, pets’ corner, greenhouses, tennis courts etc. Loved it.”

Marion Hardy said: “Amphitheatre and Rating Lane swings and the little stream and fields and hedgerows behind. How many dens did we have there!”

Eleanor Low said: “The Pavilion cinema, the skating rink, and the co-op club in Roose road. Great days.”

Laura-Jay Silman said: “I loved the merry go round in the indoor market and how my Nana would take us to the sweet stall for my cousins and I to get a pick and mix when we stayed the night with her, we would always say we would have a midnight feast but I was always the first to sleep. Fond memories.”
