A CARE home has received a 'Good' rating after a Care Quality Commission inspection was carried out.

Sr George's Care Home, on St George's Road in Millom, was the subject of an unannounced inspection by the official regulatory body after concerns were raised in relation to infection control and prevention in the service.

The home, which is owned by Kirkland's Care Limited, cares for people with dementia, and has 33 current residents, with a maximum capacity of 41.

The CQC can attribute 'Outstanding', 'Good', 'Requires Improvement', or 'Inadequate' ratings, and the inspection at St George's was carried on on June 30, and July 7, 2022 by one inspector, who spoke to residents, relatives, and staff, and also looked around the home.

Regarding the specific infection control concerns, the report said: "People were protected from the risk of infection because staff followed good practice in infection prevention and control.

"Staff used appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and followed good hand hygiene procedures.

"The provider employed a housekeeping team who ensured the home was clean, hygienic, and free from odours.

"The provider had created a COVID-19 secure visiting room to ensure safe visits could be carried out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic."

The report praised the positive interaction between staff and residents.

"People received high quality, person-centred care because the management team had developed a person-centred culture which focused on providing good care for people," it said.
