WORK has started on a project to build dozens of new homes.

Some 35 new luxury homes are being built at Lindal.

Bridgefield, located just off London Road, will bring much-needed new homes on the edge of the Lake District, for residents and relocators alike, the developers have said.

The site is the first residential development for Chandlers Homes, a family company with years’ worth of experience in the building industry.

Headed up by Chris and Karen Rawlinson, Chandlers Homes will build 35 luxury two, three four and five-bedroom homes in the village.

Mr Rawlinson said: “We’re excited to start work on the development.

"We’ve long recognised the need for high-quality homes in the area. Working with local award-winning JMP architects we’ve created a perfect blend of modern design, technology and traditional, locally sourced materials bringing a very different offer to the usual new build developments.

"Lindal offers the very best of Lakeland living with a beautiful coastline, breath-taking countryside, and the Lake District National Park on your doorstep.

"With local village amenities and Ulverston five minutes away it provides the perfect location for growing families and professionals.”

Those looking for a new home can explore the Bridgefield site without leaving their sofa by using their virtual reality experience on the company's website.

Plans to build the new homes were first approved by councillors in 2020.

The five-acre site was partly used for allotments.

Lindal and Marton Parish Council unanimously opposed the development on the grounds of highways, sewerage and drainage issues and traffic concerns.

One of the original issues had been the proposed loss of a pavement close to where London Road meets the busy A590, with concerns expressed about congestion and the chance of collisions.

The proposal was amended to include pavements on either side of London Road.
