READERS have sent their congratulations to the Lionesses after they were crowned victorious in the women’s Euro 2022 final.

The England squad faced off against Germany on Sunday night, with the team winning 2-1.

Footie fans headed to Barrow Town Centre to watch the match.

England flags were hung inside shop windows and draped across the window of popular pub Tailors.

This year’s squad included Barrow’s own Georgia Stanway.

Readers spoke of how great they thought the match was.

Twm Sion Catu said: “What a match! The male players could take some lessons, great skills, no rolling about on the floor pretending to be injured. Tough players. Come on men, watch and learn!”

Dalton said: “It was good to watch a match with crowds controlling themselves, no missiles thrown, no abuse and few amateur dramatics from the players. Will the women's game descend into the overpaid egotistical farce the men's game has? That is the problem.”

Others spoke of how proud they are of Georgia Stanway and the rest of her squad, saying that the footballing star ‘did Barrow proud’ with her performance in the Euro competition.

Congratulations were also given to the England squad’s manager, Sarina Wiegman.
