WALNEY School has announced the winners of its Furness Lions competition.

Students took part in the Furness Lions Peace Poster Competition which saw dozens of students put forward their designs and ideas for the contest.

Walney school was the only secondary school to take part with between 25 and 30 students putting their names forward for entering the competition.

The 1st prize winner was revealed as Lewis Thompson who won a certificate and £50 cheque.

Second place went to Kenzie Griffiths who also won a cheque for £25.

The third prize winner was Preston Gaitskell who won a cheque for £10.

The winners were greeted and presented with their awards by President of Furness Lions Club Lion Jim Rhodes, Jeff Hair, Youth Activities co-ordinator, Terry Yates Club Treasurer; and Karen Yates Activities Co-ordinator, held on July 20. 

For the last 30 years, Lions clubs around the world have been sponsoring special art contest in schools and youth groups.

The peace posters competition gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.
