A SPECIAL school based in Walney is hosting their own 'Glastonbury' for the pupils, offering a day of fun and art.

George Hastwell School will host 'Hastonbury' on July 19.

Teacher and organiser of the event Rachel Carr said: "We have got performances from outside the school who will have half an hour sets on two stages. We have also got our own dance group and a singing group.

"We did it two years ago, but it was just the school doing little activities. We decided to make it a bit more like a festival. The funding we receive from the event will be to improve the school a little bit, such as investing in a new playground.

"I just think it will be lovely for everyone to get together as they couldn't do events anymore in the pandemic."

When asked what help the school needs, Ms Carr said 'anything that could go in a festival such as staging, lights, performers, set design and so on.'

Headteacher Rachel Slettery said: "We aim to celebrate the fantastic achievements of all our pupils this year, showcase our talents and bring our community together.

"Our singing choir will be performing along with out dance group and some individual performances.

"We have a number of invited guests and offers from local bands to perform! This event is by invitation only and we hope that many of our friends, family and professionals who have supported us all year will be able to attend."

George Hastwell school is a special school for pupils aged three-19 with severe or profound learning difficulties and other associated needs.
