A Barrow church will be hosting a concert for Ukraine featuring a singer who has performed at the Proms.

Jess Dandy, a contralto, will be accompanied by Martin Roscoe on piano at St. Mary's of Furness Church on Duke Street.

They will be performing music by Schubert, Brahms, Wolf and Strauss.

The concert is free but donations will be given to a fund for Ukraine

The performance is July 11 at 7pm.

Jess Dandy grew up in Barrow and performed last year as a soloist for the first night of the Proms, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Jess started singing as a child. She started lessons when she was eight, and she also learned how to play the piano, violin, flute and viola.

The former Chetwynde School student can sing in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Japanese, and has also performed in Barcelona and at the Carnegie Hall in New York.

Martin Roscoe previously performed at St. Mary's Church for another Ukraine fundraiser back in April.

Martin appears regularly at Wigmore Hall and is associated with leading orchestras in the UK such as the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Scottish Symphony.
