BARROW AFC have unveiled the fourth signing of what is turning out to be a busy summer transfer window for the Bluebirds.

Veteran midfielder Sam Foley becomes Pete Wild’s fourth signing of the summer, as he joins Barrow from fellow League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Foley made 45 appearances in all competitions for the Birkenhead outfit last season, finding the back of the net 4 times from midfield.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international brings along a wealth of experience to Holker Street, with over 450 senior appearances to his name.

Foley came through the youth ranks at Cheltenham Town, and had short spells at Kidderminster Harriers and Redditch United as a rookie.

After impressing on loan at Newport County, the Welsh side was quick to snap up his services on a permanent basis.

He was ever-present for Newport, and his 12 goals in 49 appearances in 2011/12 drew the attention of League One Yeovil Town, who made a move to bring him to the South West.

The powerhouse midfielder’s first season at Huish Park was a successful one, as his midfield prowess helped lead the Somerset side to promotion to the Championship.

Foley subsequently enjoyed spells at Port Vale, Northampton, St. Mirren, and Motherwell before signing for Micky Mellon’s Tranmere Rovers last summer.

He gathered high praise from the Tranmere boss and was a fan favourite amongst the Super White Army throughout the past campaign.

Barrow boss Pete Wild is delighted to get another deal done:

"Sam is a top professional and will bring excellent added experience to the group.

"He is a player that knows this league inside out and will certainly help the squad to develop and achieve its ultimate goal."

Sam has penned a one-year deal with an option to extend, and will join the club on expiration of his Tranmere Rovers contract on July 1.

The news comes just one day after the club announced the departure of Ollie Banks, and Foley joins midfielder Solomon Nwabuokei, who joined Barrow from Woking last week, with Pete Wild having also raided former club Halifax Town for striker Billy Waters and right back Tyrell Warren.
