A CHOIR will be performing live in concert this Sunday.

Furness Bach Choir will be playing at Ulverston Parish Church, starting at 7pm.

The main work to be performed by the choir is Haydn’s ‘Harmony’ Mass, which is said to be full of ‘quirky rhythms and harmonies’, according to Chair of the choir Alison Bolt.

The choir will be joined by new conductor Alex Robinson. Despite being appointed as musical director of Furness Bach Choir towards the end of 2021, this will be his first concert with the group.

Alison said: “ We are really lucky to have him, particularly as he has to travel from Manchester to Ulverston every Tuesday on the train. This week, with all the train strikes, is going to be a particular challenge! “He is a talented and dynamic musician, and we hope he stays with us for a long time!”

Alex is bringing his orchestra from Manchester, ‘Ensemble Laus Deo’, and the soloists are Tilly Green (soprano), Lorna Day (alto), Chris Why (tenor) and Jordan Harding-Pointon (bass).

In between the sections of the Mass the orchestra will play chorales by J S Bach, arranged for orchestra. Then, after the Mass, there will be a performance of the ‘Geistliches Lied’ by Brahms.

Tickets are available from Sutton's Bookshop in Ulverston, from Alison Bolt (01229 837680) or at the door. Under 18s go free.
