BOSS Pete Wild has said he is ‘really pleased’ to welcome the ‘hugely impressive’ Nwabuoekei, despite understanding why it may have come as a surprise to the fanbase.

He also hinted that the club is looking at more deals to stave off relegation once again this season.

He said: “I was really pleased to get the deal for Solomon done because he’s a player who I came up against at Halifax twice last season and he hugely impressed me.

“He’s got massive energy and enthusiasm and I certainly believe he can complement what we have in the squad already really well.

“I know there will be some who might say it’s a bit of a left-field signing for us but, honestly, I am really excited about the amount of potential he has to improve and go to the next level.

“Now it’s about us stepping up and doing our job as coaches to bring out that improvement in him.”

And he hopes that fellow new signing Billy Waters will help the youngsters in the dressing room settle in.

“It’s definitely a very positive start to our recruitment work to have Solomon and Billy through the door,” he said.

“Good dressing rooms have good characters and, in particular with Billy, I know that he will have an impact on our younger players and support them through the ups and downs of a long season ahead.”

He hinted that the club was not done in the transfer market and might be looking at other deals they could get through the door.

“At this time of year, the players can hold all the cards, but it is all about selling them what we’re trying to do here at this club and hopefully our offers are as good as the ones they may already have on the table.”
