A BARROW-born football star has been named as one of the Lionesses for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 competition.

23-year-old Georgia Stanway will be representing England when they fight to become European champions.

Stanway recently signed to German team Bayern Munich after playing from Manchester City since 2015.

 

The England side is made up of a 23-strong squad.

Stanway is one of six midfielders and is joined by Fran Kirby, Jill Scott, Ella Toone, Leah Williamson and Keira Walsh.

The forwards include Bethany England, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead, Nikita Parris, Alessia Russo and Ellen White.

The defenders are Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood, Demi Stokes and Lotte Wubben-Moy.

The squad is finished off by goalkeepers Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton and Ellie Roebeck.

The Lionesses, who are hosting the tournament, are in Group A for the Euros with Austria - their first opponents on July 6 - Norway and Northern Ireland.
