A BARROW primary school celebrated The Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style.

St George's C of E School was swathed in red, white and blue on Friday as the school celebrated the occasion.

Children were proudly dressed in the flag's colours for the service at St George's Church which followed a Jubilee coffee morning for the local community and parents.

The 'singalong service' was enjoyed by children who sang songs from different stages of the Queen's reign, as well as a 'Last Night of the Proms' style tribute at the end. This was followed by the National Anthem and a celebration of children's work for the half term. Children were all wearing different crowns they had designed and made.

After the service, children enjoyed a picnic lunch, outside games and a party in the school grounds.

There were prizes for best crowns and costumes, as well as a free ice cream for all.

At the end of the day, children received a commemorative Jubilee medal and a special jubilee bag of goodies, provided by the PTA.

Headteacher Steve Herbert said: "It was a great celebration and a once in a lifetime event. I am delighted the way the whole community came together to honour the service the Queen has given.”
