The organisers of a new music festival for Furness in Summer 2002 have released details of the music line-ups and stages that will comprise the highly-anticipated event.

The Coast Roads Festival, to take place in Aldingham Fields on July 9 and 10 this year, has previously announced legendary band The Coral as headliners for the main stage, but Andy Graham of The Lock In, the group behind the festival, is keen to stress the local and community spirit that the event signifies.

"To have such music powerhouses as The Coral, Everything Everything, Crazy P and JW Francis points towards both what we want for the festival to be known for - huge and credible artists still at the top of their game," he said.

"However, our ethos has and always will be to put the best of the vast local musical talent we have.

"We think The Silver Bars, Jon Byrne, The Liars Club, Mark Pratt, Cooper T, and the many others we have sharing the stages with these huge acts, underlines the strength of musical talent, and it's that ethos of giving them the spotlight that is a hallmark we want the festival to be known for.

"Local talent will always be the fuel that powers the engine of this festival.

"For the rest of the festival, the aim is whether you are 80 years old or eight years old you will have a good time.

"We have a northern soul stage, the Unity stage ran by the Furness Multi-Culturism Society, and a dedicated family area which will have a programme of hourly activity for children and reasonably priced traders so children can be entertained and parents can take a load off, get something to eat, and recharge.

"We have a school stage operating in the vicinity so the best of local school acts can be on stage to perform.

"Dane Ghyll, UVHS, and Chetwynde are all involved, providing performances and artwork.

"This doubles as the BBC introducing stage, showcasing local talent from throughout the county and underlining our commitment to grassroots music and supporting local artists, giving them a big stage.

"All of this is set amongst the rolling Morecambe Bay hills with gorgeous views across the whole bay.

"We are very much looking forward to July 9 and, 10, and welcome the whole community to come and join us, because the more that come, the more money we can invest back into the community, and back into the festival."
