Former Barrow AFC defender Yoan Zouma will appear in court tomorrow charged with animal welfare offences.

Zouma and brother Kurt, the West Ham United player, will face a number of charges at Thames Magistrates' Court.

Kurt has been charged with three offences under the Animal Welfare Act.

He is accused of two counts of causing "unnecessary suffering" to his cat by kicking and slapping it.

He is also charged with failing to protect the cat from "pain suffering, injury or disease".

Yoan, meanwhile, is charged with two alleged offences, of "aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring" Kurt to commit the offence of causing unnecessary suffering to the cat.

They will appear at a first hearing at the court on Tuesday.

It follows an RSPCA investigation.

Yoan, 23, was on Barrow's books last season, making seven appearances. He is now with National League club Dagenham & Redbridge but has not played for the club since the alleged offences came to light.

The 27-year-old Kurt has continued to play for his Premier League club.
