Georgia Stanway has completed a move to Bayern Munich from Manchester City.

Hours after announcing her departure from City, the Barrow star has now sealed her switch to Germany.

The Bundesliga club have unveiled the 23-year-old on a three-year deal.

The England player leaves City as the club's record goalscorer as she prepares for the next stage in her career.

And Bayern today spoke of their delight that the Cumbrian was on board.

Bianca Rech, Bayern sporting director, said: "We are very happy about Georgia's signing.

"She is a very flexible, dangerous player and is also characterised by her mentality.

"It's also a big sign and a positive signal for the league that an English player has decided to join Germany and FC Bayern."

Stanway also said she was excited to make the move.

Speaking on the Bayern website, she said: "I've heard a lot about FC Bayern and it just feels right.

"It feels great to now be able to share the news and my excitement with the world. I can't wait to get going and play for such a big name club.

After seven great years at Manchester City, I felt it was the right time for a change. Now I'm really looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and everyone on the staff and working with them on the pitch."

Stanway said the move to the German club "felt right from the very first conversation".

She added: "My instinct told me that I belonged here. The club is so amazing - the research they did on me, the way the club presented themselves to me and how they can take my game to the next level with me.

"FC Bayern has very big ambitions and I admire that a lot.

“Of course I want to win titles on the pitch. Besides that, I'm looking forward to getting to know a new city and a new language.

"I'm looking forward to making new friends and can't wait to show my family Munich.

“The German league has always appealed to me. I've always admired the playing style of many teams and the winning mentality of many players.

"Competing against Germany in international matches was always a big challenge and very physical. I hope that by training and playing with these players I can take my game to a higher level."

Stanway had earlier confirmed her departure from City after seven years with an announcement on social media.

She said: "I joined Manchester City with a dream of becoming a professional footballer.

"I have been grateful to call it my home for the past seven years.

"Today, I leave as the club's leading top scorer, with over 150 appearances and seven domestic trophies.

"A huge thank-you to all the staff and team-mates that have supported me on my journey. And to the fans who have given me unconditional support throughout.

"I have made memories and friends for a lifetime. I will be back as a fan if not a player!"

The move comes in what promises to be a big year for the midfielder, with England aiming for Euro 2022 glory on home soil this summer.

Stanway has today been named in a provisional 28-strong squad by Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman ahead of the tournament.

The final 23-player selection will be confirmed in mid-June ahead of the championships, which start with England's game against Austria at Old Trafford on July 6.

The squad will report to St George’s Park for an initial preparation period from Monday, May 30 to Wednesday, June 1, before returning from Monday, June 6 to Friday, June 10.

That is ahead of warm-up games against Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
