A sixteen-year-old has become the youngest person to complete the Windermere Lap, making it round in eighteen and a half hours.

Jessica Davies from Merseyside took on the challenge for the second time on May 11, making it round in an impressive time.

She also took on the Wainwright’s Challenge on September 26, 2020.

On September 11, 2021, she finished the Windermere Lap for the first time in 19 hours and 41 minutes.

This was followed by her attempt on May 11, 2022, which she completed in 18 hours and 30 minutes.

This was one hour and ten minutes faster than her previous time.

Jessica said: “It felt amazing. I did it last year but this time I had hurt my back and I didn’t really do much training.

“I’ve found running quite natural and I’ve been doing it for about four years now.

“I’m used to the terrains around the Lakes and I really enjoy the routes out there.

“I wouldn’t have been able to have done it without the amazing people who have supported me especially my parents.

“When it comes to running, most of it is mental strength and part is physical, but if you put your mind to it, you can do it.’

“I would tell anybody this, but I have been trying to spread positivity over my social media platforms to try and encourage others especially my generation because there are so many places to see and so many things to achieve even if it’s small.

“I know this is a lot but I really want people to be encouraged to go out and be the best they can be.

“Getting out has not only improved my physical health but my mental health as well and my outlook on life as a whole.

“I know it isn’t always a possibility for people to go out to the Lakes but even if it’s just going to the gym, going out for a walk, run or anything they think they can’t do when I know they can they just have to work hard but train harder.

“Not only has my outlook on the outdoors changed but every aspect of life.”

Jessica has previously run around the Windermere Lap to raise money for Alderhey children hospital in 2021.

Jessica’s parents have spoken about proud they were about their daughter’s efforts.

Her mum Joanne said: “She’s the youngest person to do it.

“She started running after she started doing mountains walks after her dad went up Snowdon with our son. Then we started doing others together. We’ve done Ben Nevis, Helvellyn and they’ve done the Wainwrights Challenge.

“She’s also done the Yorkshire Three Peaks as well and she hopes to give the Windermere Lap another attempt to try and beat her time.

"We're so very proud of her."
