BARROW Raiders has confirmed a new signing who they hope will bolster the ranks - and he will be available for selection straight away.

Salford Red Devils centre Matty Costello has joined the club on a short-term loan deal.

The 24-year-old has already enjoyed a taste of Championship action this season having played one game on loan for Newcastle Thunder last month.

Barrow chairman Steve Neale said: “The suspension of Hakim Miloudi and Ryan Shaw still struggling with a niggling ankle injury have prompted our move into the market.”

Costello came through the ranks at St Helens. He made 26 first team appearances for the Saints between 2018-20 whilst also featuring for Championship clubs Sheffield and Leigh on loan during that time.

Costello linked up with Salford in 2021, where he has played 18 games to date, scoring seven tries, including one against his former club in a 14-10 defeat at the Totally Wicked Stadium two weeks ago.

He will go straight into contention for Sunday’s Cumbrian derby clash against Workington Town.
