INTERNATIONAL rugby is on the cards for a skilled Raiders player this weekend.

Barrow Raiders has wished Jarrod Sammut good luck on returning to his home country to play for his national team.

Sammut will head to Malta this weekend on national team duty for the Malta Knights rugby league team.

Originally from Australia the player is of Maltese descent through his paternal grandparents.

Sammut signed for Raiders ahead of the 2022 season after leaving Championship club London Broncos.

The experienced Malta halfback is looking to make his 14th appearance for the Mediterranean island nation, ranked a record 15th in the IRL rankings.

Sammut debuted for Malta back in 2006 in Sydney against Lebanon and has gone on to make 13 appearances in the 13-a-side version of the game.

The Maltese international has also played a number of matches for Malta in 7s rugby league as well as becoming a dual rugby international when he represented Malta Rugby Union in 2008 against Croatia.

This Saturday, May 14, the Knight's clash against Montenegro will be for the inaugural Medieval Shield and will be livestreamed on the Malta Rugby League page with kick-off scheduled for 7.00pm Malta time - or 6.00pm UK time.

A spokesman for Barrow Raiders said: "We wish Jarrod well and are excited as we look to the future and rekindle the Johnston and Carter combination that served us so well in the early weeks of the season."
