The organisers of an annual Lake District biking, walking and running festival have announced a road closure after consultation with Cumbria Police and Highways.

The Grasmere Gallop Festival includes several inclusive trail events that raise money for charities including mountain rescue, and will take place on the weekend of May 28 and 29.

A section of Red Bank road will be closed between 11am and 2pm on Saturday, May 28, and organisors have announced:

"All affected residents and businesses will receive a letter early next week informing them of the closure, plus Advance Warning signage will be in place two weeks prior to the event.

"The closure is to ensure the safety of the competitors, who will start en masse at 11.30, just past the entrance to the Red Bank car park.

"The Police will be in attendance at the start.

"The road will still be open to pedestrians, cyclists and emergency and event vehicles during this time."
