Phil Brown says Barrow AFC owe it to the rest of the division not to ease off now safety is secured.

The Bluebirds, having sealed their League Two status on Saturday, head to Exeter City tonight.

The rearranged game sees the home side aiming for the victory that would secure promotion.

But AFC boss Brown says Barrow will be fully committed to the task of trying to stop them.

“I’m going to put demands on the players again, and I’m here to tell everybody we’ve got a say in the promotion race,” he said.

“And we owe it to every team around Exeter and [our other opponents] Swindon and Northampton too to put a shift in, and that’s what we’ll be doing.

“We’ll be being as professional as we can, picking a team to try and win the game.”

Barrow could breathe a sigh of relief at the weekend as their win over Sutton, coupled with Oldham’s delayed defeat to Salford, meant the Holker Street club could look forward to a third season back in the Football League.

The focus will inevitably now turn to Brown’s own future but the experienced boss says the priority must be to finish the season in the right way.

“I think we’ve already started those conversations – the majority of the board and people who own the club have been asking questions,” said Brown to BBC Cumbria.

“I’ve been having conversations on a daily basis about the academy, facilities…

“There are lots of things about Barrow to like that the outside world don’t know about but inside the Barrow world we do know about; we don’t promote it enough.

“The chairman is worried about attracting players [if we train in Barrow] but you attract players by playing League Two football.

“There will be more discussions but there are three games to go and I want us to finish strong, and then we can start talking about things.”

Josh Kay will be suspended for the long trip to Devon after his red card in Saturday’s victory.

Brown could also weigh up John Rooney’s fitness after Saturday’s matchwinner played despite barely training all week due to an injured ankle.

Exeter boss Matt Taylor said ahead of tonight’s game: “This is our game in hand after the game was postponed because of the storm a few months ago.

“It won’t be a full list of fixtures and we’ve got to make the most of it. It’s another opportunity for points.”
