TWO businesses are teaming up to launch a new Barrow takeaway focussed on high-quality, locally-sourced food.

Rowen McClure, from Viking Spice, has joined forces with Gavin Southward, from Southward’s Farm Shop in Askam, to create the new takeaway, BBQ House.

The pair saw a gap in the market for a takeaway which produces quality food whilst supporting the local community.

The duo is teaming up with Barrow Readers for the venture – and will be cooking from their new kitchen within the grounds.

Mr McClure said the pair is ‘very excited’ to take on the new business.

“I started Viking Spice a couple of years ago and have primarily been catering local festivals,” he said.

“I knew Gavin from the festival scene and catering different events and we thought we’re doing a similar thing, why not put both our businesses together?

“Our next step was launching a takeaway and we were looking for a place to do that from. Barrow Raiders approached us saying that they have a brand new kitchen.

“We also saw a gap in the market. There’s quite a few takeaways in Barrow which use cheap burgers and pizzas. All our food is made ourselves from local farms. Even the vegan stuff is made by is.

“We’re really excited for it. It came about fairly quickly. We’ve had a lot of support from the local community. People have been asking us to open a takeaway for a while.

“We’ve had a great response so far.”

Throughout the year, the takeaway will be expanding and adding more to the menu including new items from their smokehouse.

But from day one you can expect hand-made burgers and kebabs using meat sourced locally and seasonings from Viking Spice, hand-made vegan burgers, fresh sourdough pizzas and the famous dirty duck fries plus much more.

The pair is inviting the public to Barrow Raiders on May 6 to try out their food and cocktails.

BBQ House will be catering for the Barrow Raiders vs Featherstone Rovers match on May 7 followed by their official launch on May 8 when the takeaway will be available on Barrow Eats.

They are also catering the Pitch Up Music Festival featuring Tom Zanetti and Bad Boy Chiller Crew on May 21.
