Barrow AFC’s academy will this month host trials for young players who are not part of the Barrow & District Junior League.

The Bluebirds want to cast their net further afield in a bid to attract young talent to the club.

They are recruiting for next season’s Junior Premier League squads, with trial events due to start in late April.

The trials will run for a maximum of four weeks, and the club say goalkeepers and outfield players are encouraged to register and take part.

“Players currently playing for a grassroots team within the Barrow & District Junior League are not eligible for these trials,” the club said.

“Successful trialists will be offered the chance to join our Junior Premier League squads for the 2022//23 campaign, competing in the North West section of the nationally-recognised league.

“Registered applicants will be emailed with information around exact times and dates.”

The club say those eligible who currently play for grassroots teams who play their competitive fixtures on a Sunday would be eligible to play for both Barrow AFC and their grassroots club.

Wednesday, April 27 will see trials for under-10s and under-11s, with Thursday, April 28 set to see trials for under-13s and under-14s. Successful children of those respective ages will go into the age group a year above next season - i.e. under-10 trialists will help form the under-11 squad.

Games in the Junior Premier League will be played every Saturday morning, with home games being played in Barrow and away games around the North West.

Training will be held twice a week, including analysis and conditioning.
