Not a good day at the office for local teams as the new league season was underway at the weekend.

Only three out the eight teams were victorious with Ulverston coming from behind to defeat Chorley Panthers.

The Home side were ahead at the break 12-4 but a spirited second half performance saw the Dragley Beck side take the two points on offer at 26-18.

Tries came via Marc Storey, Johny Hutton, Sam Shepherd and Kieron Potter with three goals from Connor Saunders.

Dalton got their campaign underway with a 52-12 home win over Wigan St Cuthberts leading 30-14 at the break.

Evan Jones led the romp with a hat-trick of tries with others coming from Jack Crarey, Joe Crarey, Sam Purslow, Ioan Hayes, Zac Steel and Cavan Armstrong, with goals from Steel four, plus one from Pat Kelly.

Walney Cents came back with the points with a fine 36-22 win at Pilkington Recs “A”.

Tries coming from Matt Solsby 2, Matt Elliott 2, Andy Litherland, Jordan Staffieri, and Declan Gavin with four goals from Dave Nicholson.

Askam were second best in their home tie with Harsefinch losing 60-20, tries coming from Liam Somerville, Ethan Guy and Owen Bridle 2 with Brad Jackson adding two goals.

Hindpool failed to register a point going down 60-0 at Wigan Springview.

And to round off the afternoon in the North West Men’s League Roose Pioneers went down 14-30 to Salford City Roosters tries coming from Will Mallinson 2 and Jordan Ashton with Sam Beattie adding one goal.

Due to a shortage of match officials Barrow RL CEO Steve Neale took the whistle.

In the Conference, Barrow Island put up a brave show before going down 26-18 at Crossfields.

The home side led at one stage 18-4 only for the Island to draw level but lost out with two late tries to the Warrington side.

Tries came from Adam Ford, Jonathan Walsh, and Sam Jones with three goals from Max Moore.

Millom failed to score at Batley Boys going down 22-0.
