Barrow AFC have been hit by a fresh injury blow which looks set to keep Josh Kay on the sidelines for at least six weeks.

The Bluebirds man is facing up to a lay-off having damaged ankle ligaments in last Tuesday's victory at Northampton Town.

Kay came off the bench in the second half but then had to go off himself after suffering the injury.

Barrow say the popular Kay will be out for "at least" six weeks in the latest injury to hit Mark Cooper's squad.

The manager, whose side goes to Hartlepool United tomorrow, said it will be a blow to lose 25-year-old Kay until late March at least.

“It seems to the be story of our season that we get close to having a fully-fit squad and then we pick up another problem or two,” the Barrow manager told the club website.

“I’m upset for Josh and for us because he’s a dangerous player and when the opposition are pressing us and leaving space in behind it’s ideal for him because he can use that pace he has.

“We can’t do anything now other than make sure he gets the best possible treatment and hope he can get back to fitness as soon as possible.”
