A PLANNED training exercise will be carried out at Carlisle Civic Centre this week - with the public being told no to be alarmed by the events.

The training exercise will be carried out with crews from in and around Carlisle as well as Penrith in the iconic city building.

Cumbria Fire Service said: "Between 18:30 – 21:00 on Thursday 27 January, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service crews from Carlisle East, Carlisle West, Longtown, Brampton, Wigton, Lazonby and Penrith Fire Stations will be carrying out a training exercise at the Civic Centre in Carlisle city-centre.

"Please be aware that there will be a number of Fire and Rescue Service personnel and vehicles in the area but this is purely for the purpose of the training exercise.

"So please do not be alarmed, this is a planned event as it’s important that firefighters train for a range of scenarios across the county and make training exercises as realistic as possible."
