TWO Barrow-born rugby players have made their debut appearances for a Super League club.

Rio Corkill and Ellis Archer made their first team debuts for St Helens in a testimonial match for Alex Walmsley.

They made their appearances in the second half to help St Helens to a 16-6 victory over Leigh.

Lisa Corkill, Rio’s mum, said: “It felt like 15 seconds/

“We’re extremely proud. It’s going well at St Helens and he’s really enjoying it.

“The whole situation is quite surreal.”

Both Corkill, who is in the reserves, and Archer, who is in the academy, have been called up to first team training in preparation for their appearances.

They were also involved in a pre-season training camp with the squad over Christmas.

Barrow lad Corkill left Walney Central in 2019 to join the academy at St Helens, which he recently graduated from.

Both he and Archer still live in Barrow despite training in Merseyside three to four times per week.
