CONCERN has been raised after work began on installing electrical vehicle charging points in car parks.

The ground work is under way for the installation of four electric vehicle charging point in Dalton’s Lime Street Car park, an initiative introduced by Barrow Borough Council to achieve carbon neutral status by 2037.

However, readers have raised concerns over the location and cost of the charging points.

Stephen Kelland said: "If you want tourists to come to Dalton you need to provide charging stations.

"Where else would you put them other than a car park?"

Paul Griffiths said: "On street and off street parking is free throughout Dalton so why is this an issue?

"EVs also have to park somewhere, if they can charge up at the same time (at cost, raising revenue) what’s the problem?"

Dave J Taylor said: "Are Barrow council going to introduce fines for people with petrol cars who park in charging bays?

"Has anyone carried out a survey to see how many people in the area have EV`s?

"And to note four electric vehicle charge points are coming to Dalton Lime St Car Park.

"Something similar going to Nelson St car park too.

"Currently, Dept Transport data show 134 EV's registered in Barrow with just nine EV charge points.

"Even with these and with another 14 being provided in the borough it will still be one of the districts with low provision of charge points."

Samantha Taylor said: "The leisure centre would have been a good bet. Shame they haven’t put a couple of chargers there."

Shawn Galbraith said: "I thought the council were putting these charging points in public car parks."

Tony Moon said: "Waste of money."

A total of 18 additional charging points will soon be made available in 10 car parks and other locations in the area.
