Muncaster Castle, near Ravenglass, was due to play host to a grand model show during the first weekend of October 1994.

Under the headline ‘A multitude of models on show at Muncaster’, The Mail reported that Cumbria Model Makers Society, in conjunction with Ravell (UK), would have a host of radio controlled craft on show, including model helicopters, cars and boats.

Along with the larger models, there would also be a science fiction stall.

The Li’le Ratty Association would give steam train rides and there would be a classic vehicles show of cars and motorcycles.

Many Army vehicles would also be displayed and model aircraft would be flown all day

Dave Stowell, secretary of Cumbria Model Makers Society, said they were expecting visitors to flock from all over the country to the event.

In April 1996 train spotters were spying an impressive display of diesel carriages gracing the Evening Mail office window in Ulverston.

The Cavendish Street showcase boasted 20 model engines and carriages covering the entire range of diesel carriage livery to use the Sante Fe Railway in America.

An Ulverston model railway enthusiast created the annual Easter display for the office with his own personal collection.

“On January 1, 1996, probably the most famous American railway ceased to exist - the Sante Fe Railway merged with the Burlington Northern,” he said.

"I'm putting on a display of the all the livery carried during the Sante Fe's diesel era - this means all the different colour schemes carried."

In August 1996 a model of Millom station and goods sidings was on display at the station craft centre, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Furness Railways.

The Railway Modellers club was planning to add the ironworks to the model and would like to hear from anyone with photographs and information from 1950-1968 to make it authentic.
