A BARROW personal trainer is looking forward to bringing his brand of fitness to members of the community with effects that could last a life time.

This week's Person of the Week is Andy Taylor, 34, from Ulverston, following outstanding feedback from clients since beginning his new role.

Andy has recently began working at the Barrow Nuffield Health Gym, located in Hollywood Park on Hindpool Road, and has used his experience from his education in sport exercise science and his career in personal fitness to gather great feedback from clients early on in his new position.

Beginning his role three weeks earlier, Andy has worked with clients to help improve their overall fitness, wellbeing, and mental health.

Following an injury, Andy was able to translate his experience in recovery into his career as a personal trainer.

He said: "I've been employed as a personal trainer for the past three weeks so far and it's been going incredibly well.

"I'm very grateful to be working with the team here at Nuffield Health. They offer a lot of things that other gyms don't.

"It all started for me in education when I did a degree in sport exercise science when I was 18.

"I then went on to travel and work abroad which took me into a few different jobs before I realised what I wanted to do.

"I knew what ever career I started in it had to be something I was really invested in.

"Helping people has become something I am very interested in. It started with working for kids with special needs and behavioural problems.

"I suffered an injury in my knee which required me to have surgery and when I got back into training, I was very focused on looking after myself. I hope to be able to show other people how they can do the same.

"Particularly since doing rehab I'm doing a lot of pre-hab, which is meant to ensure injuries don't happen to begin with.

"I worked in sales and business development for the last four to five years but I never got that job satisfaction out of it so I started training in my spare time until I thought about doing it for a job.

"In the first few weeks I've had some great feedback and am very grateful to the team I'm working with.

"Outside of this I'm a keen snow boarder and an instructor, and I also do a lot of surfing when I can. That also requires me to do a lot of cardio and strength fitness.

"I also used to play football, hike, climb and swim.

"With my clients I work toward longevity and building a good relationship between them and fitness so they actually want to do it instead of feeling like they 'need' to. I'm really looking forward to where this can go.

"I'm really grateful for the gym and the staff."
