MAGISTRATES in Carlisle have handed out jail terms to people who failed to pay fines that they owed.
The jailed defendants included the following:
* Angela Johnston, 34, of Newlaithes Avenue, Carlisle. She owed a fine of £802, which was imposed on November 2, 2006. She was jailed for 28 days, but is already serving a sentence, records show.
* Peter Liam Johnson, of Lowther Street, Carlisle. He owed £170, a fine imposed in February, 2019. He was jailed for seven days.
* Viorel Iulian Pricope, of Scotland Road, Penrith. He failed to pay a £140 fine, imposed in November, 2018. He was given seven days custody, though he too is already serving a jail term.
* Dean Richard Fawcett, 41, of Cross Street, Barrow, jailed for 14 days for failing to pay £433, a fine imposed on April 12, 2014. He too is already in jail.
