A GROUP'S fight to rid the streets of potholes has gone musical.

Fed up with pockmarked roads in Dalton, a group of community activists have sought to draw more attention to their campaign.

They have produced the Dalton Pothole Song, calling Cumbria the 'holiest county in all the world'.

Made by the Dalton Community Action Group, the music video is a riff on The Pothole Song by Richie Kavanagh.

It was made to coincide with National Pothole Day, created in 2015 to raise awareness of the ever-growing pothole problem on the country's roads.

The video features images of several potholes photographed on the roads of Dalton and took around five hours to put together.

Dave Taylor, the chairman of the Dalton Community Action Group, said: "The pothole situation is unbelievable and is getting worse.

"We're getting more and more potholes appearing all the time.

"We made the video to make the issue more high profile.

"We've got to turn thing humorous to get our point across."

Mr Taylor has repeatedly expressed concern that potholes in the area are not being adequately fixed.

Cumbria County Council's highways teams have used temporary fixes on potholes. But some residents have expressed concern that the repairs are not up to scratch.

The council has promised to carry out future work on potholes in Dalton.

"The town is full of potholes and they never fix them properly," he said.

"We're getting more potholes appearing all the time and it's down to the volume of traffic."

The action group boss said he had received support from Mark Morrell, known as Mr Pothole.

Cumbria County Council said a package of repairs to potholes is being scheduled now.

Some will be permanent and some temporary, depending on the availability of materials.

Works are due to start shortly.

The county council has previously urged residents to report damage, saying: “The best way the public can help our highways teams to maintain the network is to provide us with detailed information on defects and include good photos, when safe to do so."
