FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a cloud of thick black smoke was reported following a blaze.
Emergency services were called at 4pm on Thursday afternoon after reports of a fire near Sandside Road in Ulverston.
Firefighters from Ulverston Blue Light Hub were sent to the scene and worked quickly to suppress the flames.
Upon arrival, the fire was 'well alight' and emitting thick black smoke due to tyres being involved in the blaze.
The fire was extinguished by the team using foam and water.
Members of the public captured images of a cloud of black smoke hovering over a number of buildings in the town.
Residents reported seeing a 'pile of tyres burning' near an industrial building which may have caused the plume of smoke.
A spokesman for Ulverston Blue Light Hub said: "At approximately 4pm yesterday, both Ulverston pumps received a call out to a fire in the open.
"Upon arrival the fire was well alight and giving off thick black smoke due to tyres being involved in the fire.
"Breathing apparatus and Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) was used.
"Crews worked quickly and efficiently to suppress the fire and protect the surrounding structures."
