READERS have had their say on what they think should happen to the site of WHSmith in Barrow after being placed on the market.

WHSmith in Barrow has been listed on Rightmove after announcing their closure last year.

The Portland Walk site has been put on the market with an asking price of £475,000.

The description on the listing said: "The premises are available by way of a new effective full repairing and insuring lease for a term of years to be agreed. Consideration will also be given to a temporary letting. The virtual freehold is also available for sale by way of a 999 year long leasehold at a peppercorn rent.

Readers shared what they wanted to happen.

Jme Wall said: "Another charity shop."

Joshua McKee said: "All the hard working staff losing jobs they're all brilliant in their own way. But enough is enough, we need action. Barrow needs to stop placing the same shops over and over again. As much as I love charity shops, takeaways eg there is too many.

"There is no room for profitable shops anymore just look at Debenhams and Marks and Spencer, they are all gone now. They could put new shops in like Primark, HMV etc. Barrow is going to lose more and more jobs if they're not careful. Plus online shopping doesn't help, people like to go in and look and feel around the place. Sadly Barrow is losing its once wow factor! When is action going to happen? #SaveBarrow."

Dawn Green said: "Maybe just stay as WHS, then the hard working staff wouldn't be without a job."

Les Mcleese said: "Someone should buy it and the neighbouring shops ie Debenhams, Body Shop etc and turn it into a multi use entertainment/retail court."

Sarah Armstrong said: "We need more shops for men we don't need anymore charity shops."

Simon Kenny said: "TNT Records should move in."

Lynda Warriner said: "Just no more charity shops."
